It’s amazing how many people fall for old tricks.

Marijuana has been legal in Colorado for more than a year now, and yet pot spoofs continue to go viral, with a number of people actually believing these stories.

The latest one is from, which stated that Colorado McDonald franchises are converting their Play Place areas into pot-friendly smoking areas. The Inquisitr was able to collect tweets from number of people who were convinced that yes, McDonald’s about to go pot-friendly, despite the fact that has previously published titles like “White Woman Gives Birth to Black Baby, Claims the Ghost of Michael Jackson Impregnated Her” and “Woman Arrested in Walmart for Trying on Tampons in the Feminine Care Aisle.”

Such confusion induced by satire news sites is hardly unique. Last year, The Daily Currant reported that the first day of marijuana legalization in Colorado killed as much as 37 people, which was downright ridiculous. Yet even Maryland police chief Michael Pristoop believed it and actually cited it in a state testimony two months after it was proven false.

During the same month, Newslo also reported that Rep. Michele Bachmann was arrested for driving under the influence in Colorado. Even though it was published in a satire news site and the facts obviously didn’t check out, the city where the arrest supposedly took place had to deny the article on Twitter for the benefit of the gullible believers.

Even the respectable Drug Abuse Resistance Education (DARE) was fooled when satire site published thee article, “Edible Marijuana Candies Kill 9 in Colorado, 12 at Coachella.” DARE must have thought that candy names like Uncle Tweety’s Chewy Flipper and Gummy Satans sounded realistic.

One can’t help but wonder why people don’t check out the sources first. It’s a dead giveaway.
